la operación fiambrera

Gemma and I were discussing an email that Pablo had sent out about the ever increasing amount of tupperware in the office and his solution to diminish the collection. I had always heard Catalan folks saying "tupperware" but in a catalan sort of way: "tooper varey". Pablo used "fiambreras", which i thought was an Argentinian thang, but she said "no, we use that too. It comes from fiambre, which also means cadavar." I thought that was rather macabre, and following in that line, I asked her what the Spanish word for "morgue", because I had an image in my mind of corpses in tupperware preserved in a giant refridgerator. She tells me "tanatorio", and the word sound ancient, like osario, so I went to look it up on the DRAE. It comes from the Greek, θάνατος, which means death, among other things, as I soon found out.
I searched for θάνατος ("thanatos" transliterated) in Perseus, but found nothing, so I just sent it off to Google to see what would come up. In La Paroloa, an Italian scriptural research site, I found the following from Thayer's lexicon:
1) the death of the body
1a) that separation (whether natural or violent) of the soul and the body by which the life on earth is ended
1b) with the implied idea of future misery in hell
1b1) the power of death
1c) since the nether world, the abode of the dead, was conceived as being very dark, it is equivalent to the region of thickest darkness, i.e. figuratively, a region enveloped in the darkness of ignorance and sin
2) metaphorically, the loss of that life which alone is worthy of the name
2a) the misery of the soul arising from sin, which begins on earth but lasts and increases after the death of the body in hell
3) the miserable state of the wicked dead in hell
4) in the widest sense, death comprising all the miseries arising from sin, as well physical death as the loss of a life consecrated to God and blessed in him on earth, to be followed by wretchedness in hell
It is fascinating to me that one word could invoke such disparate and proundly philosophical meanings.

Buenos días a todos, durante hoy y mañana llevaremos a cabo la operación fiambrera......esto quiere decir que cada uno deberá recuperar la fiambrera que se ha dejado en la oficina hace quien sabe cuanto??? el jueves empezará la segunda etapa de este proyecto que llamaremos una fiambrera para un amiguito, buscando nuevos padres adoptivos para las fiambreras que han quedado huérfanas (si quieren hacemos una reunión de tuperwares estilo los ochenta, se busca anfitriona!!!), una vez terminadas estas dos etapas el día viernes paras las fiambreras que no hayan sido reclamadas y no les hayamos encontrados nuevas familias de acogida, simplemente desapareceran misteriosamente......
