Metadata parses like this are the tools that will take the Internets to the next level
When I studied literature and comparative religions at university, I was always on the hunt for dictionaries, concordances, and bibliographies that would provide me with a bird's eye view of a text or genre. Would it not be cool if I could do a search a book and find a key word or phrase? A step in that direction is the Wordle application, fast becoming my favourite toy on the Interwebs. Basically, it creates a word cloud of any given text, with which you can see the emphasis given to certain terms and those that do not stand out as much. Very revealing for speeches, opinion pieces, and websites in general. Give it a go. They use a Java app on the front end, so it is, of course, rather slow, but it is well worth the wait. Here is the word cloud from Ann Coulter's column from 20 September 2008.
