On the Daily Show with John Stewart from Wednesday, they featured a satirical photo montage that consisted of one of the now famous shots of then President elect Obama body surfing at a beach in Hawaii. Along with the photo of Mr. Obama walking from the water, they dropped in a map of the United States in such a way that it appeared as if Mr. Obama was holding the state of Florida, and by extension the whole United States, with his hand. The montage represented the punch line of the "Honeymoon's over" segment, in which they discussed the media's over use of that metaphor and their apparent premature hailing of its demise. "Will we always have the memories?" John asked himself, and then they cut to this photo:

John Stewart added, "For the purposes of that joke, let's just say that Florida is our hand."
Now, it goes without saying that the writers of The Daily Show and John Stewart himself are well versed in The Simpsons and would most certainly be familiar with the precidence set in the episode "Kill the Alligator and Run" from February of 2001, where Homer made it abundantly clear that Florida is "America's Wang". To suggest that they made this montage with the sole purpose of portraying Mr. Obama as merely holding hands with the United States, only to realise later perhaps that it may harbour sexual inuendo, is disingenuous at best, and deliberately deceptive and mischiviously duplicitous at worst, given the clear historical context of the phalic nature of Florida as established by writer John swartzwelder of The Simpsons.
They should be ashamed of themselves for portraying the future President of the United States as if he were holding a monstrous cock, and hiding behind a presumed naivety of television literature. After this shocking broadcast, I do not doubt that we will see conspiracy theorists claiming that President Obama is in fact a homosexual, just as they claim that he is a muslim.
Not that there's anything wrong with that .
