Homeless Man Donates $400,000 to NPR

Richard Walters, a homeless man who lived in Phoenix, died two years ago. He left behind a $4 million estate, which he donated to various non-profits, including National Public Radio.  A retired engineer from AlliedSignal Corp.; an honors graduate of Purdue with a master's degree; a Marine; and an avowed atheist, he turned his back on the material world and its trappings--the things that we think we must have in order to be happy--and lived a simple life in Phoenix, Arizona.
